Pool G (Catania): Germany-Italy 1-3 (25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 18-25)
Hosts Italy rose to the occasion in front of more than 5,000 partisan spectators at PalaCatania to score a 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18) victory over Germany in its Pool G second round debut at the FIVB Men’s World Championship.
The Italian side out-blocked the opponent 12-2 with a got the edge 4-3 in the service winners category.
Simone Parodi led the winners with 20 points including three blocks and Luigi Mastrangelo contributed four more blocks among his 8 points. Other Italians in double figures were Cristian Savani and Michal Lasko with 15 and 13 respectively.
German Robert Kromm topped the scores of the defeated side with 16 points and Gyorgy Grozer and Bjorn Andrae recorded 11 apiece.

Pool H (Milano): Mexico-Cuba 0-3 (17-25, 25-27, 15-25)
In Pool H second match Cuba beats Mexico and almost secures qualification to the third round of World Championship.
Leal and Simon, with a great help from Leal's spectacular defense, take Cuba immediately ahead on 1-4. Mexico tries to react with Aguilea and Contreras, but Leal scores another time for 8-13. Cuba easily keeps its advantage (14-21) and an offensive mistake by Contreras closes the set. The start of the second set is more balanced (3-4, 6-5), thank to several good defensive plays by Mexico; Azair Lopez's team increases its advantage with an ace by Pedro Rangel on 11-8. Cuba narrows the gap with Leon (16-15) and ties the score at 17-17. Diaz and Leon break the point-by-point play with two consecutive blocks on 21-23, but Mexico cancels 3 set points before Camejo gives the 25-27 point to Cuba. Leal's serve keeps causing trouble for Mexico and takes Cuba ahead 1-5 in the third set; Martell tries to keep the match alive (7-12) but Diaz easily blocks Jesus Rangel on 8-16 and Cuba, despite of two aces by Martell, closes the match with Leal.

Pool L (Ancona): Cameroon-Usa 2-3 (25-23, 14-25, 27-25, 20-25, 7-15)
The USA served-up a spectacular victory to the 4000 fans at the PalaRossini venue in Ancona, Italy.  The crowd was by and large on the side of Cameroon, but the USA succeeded in maintaining a tight control of a match characterized by highs and lows, securing their place in the next round.  A prolonged match (126 minutes) and embattled (25-23, 14-25, 27- 25, 20-25, 7-15) was won in a tie break by the freshest team with the attackers showing a stellar performance: Ndkai closed with 29 points from Cameroon and from the USA Stanley and Priddy with 27 and 26 personal points.
